Response priming is an ABA strategy that prepares autistic children for upcoming transitions, new routines, or unfamiliar situations before they happen. Using visual schedules, social stories, role-play, or short verbal previews, priming gives children a chance to understand what to expect ahead of time, which may reduce anxiety and support smoother participation. Because every child responds differently, BCBAs individualize the approach based on communication style, sensory needs, and developmental goals, adjusting the timing and amount of preparation as the child progresses.
